The process of commissioning a piece typically begins with an initial consultation. This generally involves you coming into my workshop where we will discuss your the outline brief for your project. If you prefer, I can also work from your own initial design sketches which you can e-mail or post to me.

The next stage would be to arrange to meet either at your home or office.  This gives me an opportunity to see the final location of the piece and to gain a further understanding of your project brief. We can also discuss your thoughts on the budget.

When the sketches and presentation drawings are prepared, I will contact you to arrange a second meeting. This will be to present you with the design along with an indication of cost, including delivery. At this point any final alterations can be made to the design of the piece.

I will now produce the working drawings, prepare the materials list and finalise the charges. When these are approved, you will sign an agreement and pay the deposit (usually 40% of the final price). I will give a date for the work to commence and a final delivery date. Usually 6 –8 weeks.

During the making, I will keep you updated by email as to the progress of your piece. If you wish to visit the workshop to see the progress for yourself, you will be most welcome.

When I undertake furniture commissions, I have standard charges and terms of business.
